What to Wear Wednesday!

Last time I told you about the love/hate relationship I have with dolls. The hate comes from movies like "Child's Play" and dolls that look too much like a real human being. The love is for big eyed creatures with long lashes and a little red kisser. Like Christina Ricci. Not that she isn't a real human being, but I think her doll-like features are beyond human. An inspiration to a lot of artists (including moi) and today, the inspiration for this What to Wear Wednesday!

This picture makes me want to draw her!

Funny thing is of course, she played Wednesday in "The Addams Family" several times, so what could be more appropriate? I happen to own a dress like the one she wears in the movies. A real nice manufacturer from Berlin called Ponymaedchen, makes these. I went there last year (Berlin is a great city!) and I just loved how it fitted my rather curvaceous body. It's a little bit stretchy, so that improves the hugging of the arches.

Feminine, yet playful

They ship internationally, and a lot of their stuff is handmade, so go for it! There are a lot more dresses to choose from, but if you like the girly yet seductive Wednesday dress, here are two ways to wear it. If you would like to go for the dark, evil sister look, combine it with smokey eyes, pale lips and long black braids. But perhaps you're opting for something a little softer, then match your new black dress with a cute ponytail, long black lashes and some charming red lips!

What to Wear Wednesday!

I know spring won't be here for ages (okay, it's less then a month, but who's counting), nevertheless I am already craving for lots of sunshine and ice cream! Last summer, we went to France and I tasted the most magnificent aroma I've ever savored; violet ice cream. It was delicious, and very pretty together with the pistachio I combined it with.

yum!
So, for this Wednesday, I was only thinking in violets. And since the opening of my Etsy shop is getting closer and closer, I decided to look for violets on etsy.com. Just to evoke the feeling of bright days and walking on the street with a nice dress and bare legs.

The first things I liked were these polymer beads made by tooquarius. You can make yourself a necklace or bracelet, but if you string them to a nice ribbon, you can hang them from a tree or plant and let them wear the first blossom!

Then I noticed a Violet Maiden Dress set for Pullip dolls made by KerriaRosette. Ever since I was little I've had this love/hate relationship with dolls. Some can scare me to death and others I just love to watch, draw or make myself. Pullip and Blythe dolls fall within the "love" category as well as all characters designed by Tim Burton! Although I don't own a Pullip doll, and the dress is way to small for me to wear, I thought it was worth mentioning this piece. Just for inspirations sake.

And then, something I would definitely wear; a beautiful evening dress made by Lilibrush. I can feel the warm summer breeze fan over my arms already!
this would match my body perfectly!

Cupcakes, cava and crispy sheets!

A few days ago, my husband took me to Antwerp. Yes, it was Valentine's Day and he decided to benefit from the special offer hotel Les Nuits had on this day. We stayed there last year on my birthday, and we really enjoyed it. Their design rooms are very clean and have a nice large bed with fresh white sheets. Because of Valentine's Day there were cupcakes in our room. It was already dark so I thought they were chocolate, but when I took a bite they turned out to be red velvet! With a delicious vanilla creamy topping.

The offer also included dinner at their restaurant, and a nice glass of cava. We got four courses but I ate so much of the starters and main dish that I could not even try to eat my dessert. I usually eat small portions, but after a taste of the salsify-Parmesan mousse I was sold. Who knew that this old fashioned vegetable could be so delicious?! In stead of the cheese board, I got fresh mint tea to ease my bloated stomach :)

After a nice long diner with us chatting the whole evening, it only took a few stairs to get to our room. The bed was divine and crispy so we slept like babies. Next morning, the walk-in shower with its huge shower head that made the water drop like a waterfall, asked for a long cleansing session. But you know what they say; save water, shower with a friend!

I really like our house, and the city we live in, but sometimes it feels so good to sleep somewhere else. In a place they take care of you, and all you have to do is to indulge. Mmmmmm!

What to Wear Wednesday!

Sometimes the best inspiration you can get is while walking down the street and just looking at other people. There are some really creative human beings out there, and their styles can give me many great ideas! Unfortunately, I live in a country that has a lot to do with well, rain, wind and coldness. While I try to take care of an original look most of the days, I totally understand that our alternately weather sometimes asks for an easy and practical style. But practical can also be very original!

Synergy Sisters last sale

My former belly dance teacher is setting up her own label. Being a dancer and living in the Netherlands, she knows that clothing at times just needs to be very comfortable. But she also is a confident woman that wants to look her best at all times. So her clothes are all of that in one. And soon there will be a fashion show for her next collection!

Sneak peek at a new design!

I will go of course and tell you all about it, but meanwhile, take a look at Synergy Sisters. It's all handmade, so challenge-proof, woohoo! And if you live nearby Eindhoven, or are visiting our little country, come by and see the show on March 30th. It starts at 20:00 and the admission is free. Adress is Ketelhuis, Ketelhuisplein 1 – Strijp-S in Eindhoven. Hope to see you there!

What to Wear Wednesday!

In six days, it will be Valentine's Day. It used to be something for secret lovers, but nowadays, big retailers as well as several smaller and more personal shops, try to make a little extra on this holiday. So next to the Valentine cards, there are also Valentine chocolates, warm Valentine slippers, Valentine sensual massage sets, special Valentine menu's in restaurants, Valentine.. well, everything.

I don't think it's a bad thing to pay special attention to your loved ones. Maybe it's a bit compulsory to do this with millions of people on that same day. But hey, as long as that's not the only day you express your affection, why not take advantage of, for example, the special prizes the delicious menu's have!

So this Valentine's day, let your mum, best friend, boyfriend, wife, lover or neighbor know they're special. But also, buy yourself a treat. Because your greatest love should be you. Tempt yourself with a fine peace of lingerie, and strut around your house like a genuine Irma la Douce! Then, wrap around a warm gown and eat the chocolates you spoiled yourself with!

Since I can't buy mass-produced underwear this year, and used panties from e-bay don't sound like a good idea at all, vintage undergarments from f.e. poshgirlvintage or heavenlyvintagelingerie are the answer for my gift to me. Some items are never used. I feel like Joan Harris-Holloway already!

What to Wear Wednesday!

In a large part of the world it is winter. In Hawaii even in winter it will be lovely weather to take a swim, but over here, you will have to seize a pickaxe before diving, because the lake is frozen. So, yes, it is cold, but that doesn't mean you have to wear ski wear or fleece sweaters. That pretty spring dress is very wearable, as long as you layer.

So pick your black opaque tights and start layering! Cardigans are a perfect solution for covering the short sleeves. If this isn't enough, wear a nice long sleeve underneath your dress, preferable one that matches the neckline. For some inspiration I took a look at the vintage section at ModCloth. They have loads of great items, but you have to keep an eye on the site, because nice things will be sold out in a second!

The mood board for today contents elements only from ModCloth. Hope you will get inspired and make a nice combination with your own clothes!
