What to Wear Wednesday!

Although we did San Francisco on our own, in New York we were together with my parents. It was very nice and everybody could do their own thing, but we'd always have dinner together. One day, girls and boys went their separate ways. Eddy and my dad visited Ground Zero and some monuments and my mum and I did girl stuff. Around 4 Eddy texted me that they arrived at a place I might like very much; Artists & Fleas at Chelsea Market.

Well, my husband knows me very well, cause I loved the place! There were vendors of handmade jewelry, vintage clothing and apparel that was designed by New York based artists. The mood was easy going and everybody was real kind. Eddy and my dad were sitting in the sun, so my mum and I could take our time snooping around.

I saw a lot of nice things, but I guess I'm kind of used to not buying stuff (probably I'm already detoxed) because I didn't buy anything. My mindset has always been a little like, do I really need this, but now, it's second nature! I did see a very lovely dress, and if it had been cheaper, it would've traveled to Eindhoven with me. It's got summertime written all over it! If you're in New York, or going, visit this cool place. It's there till June 3rd. There's also one in Brooklyn, open on Saturdays and Sundays the whole year!

very summery (is that a word?)

We went to the Cotton Candy Machine!

I've been in love with the work of Tara McPherson for a few years now and since she has a gallery/boutique in Brooklyn (named the Cotton Candy Machine), this was one of the must-see's on my New York wishlist. Last Christmas, Eddy got me a giclée print of "The Lover" and we were thinking of complementing this with work from some other artists. So a few weeks before our trip, I looked what artist the gallery was featuring. Lucky us; on May the 11th, Scott C. would open his art show with new watercolors!

Tender Times

Wow, the work of this man is just super cute! I've got a Hi-Fructose edition with work of him in it, so I already was a little familiar with this ingenious guy. But seeing yet another world he created, we loved it! Everything in his paintings is cute, even the scary guys. We decided on treating ourselves with a reproduction of "Mortimer in his Living Room" from the "Zombie in Love" book. I just can't stop looking at the tiny worms playing cards. We also bought the "Amazing Everything" book. But of course I was too shy to ask him if he could sign it :)

It was wonderful to be there, see the boutique and more work of Tara also. I really like the colors she works with, and the mysterious atmosphere of her creations. Eddy and I went early because we were meeting my parents for sushi (mmmmm!) later that night. So, unfortunately we didn't see Tara McPherson herself. But I bet we will visit New York again some day, so who knows.
More of our New York and San Francisco adventures will follow soon!

What to Wear Wednesday!

Last Saturday the coolest clothing-swap-party in town; Ellies Kledingkast, had it's latest (but certainly not last) edition. Despite the lack of sleep, due to our flight back from the States, I just had to be there. And I'm glad I went, because it was such a cool night! It seems that this party is getting more and more professional with every new edition. Now they even had little cards on the tables saying something like; "Thanks for being there!" How cute is that?

waiting for the signal to start screaming

The location was great. Piet Hein Eek is a designer that has a huge atelier in Eindhoven. He also has a restaurant in the middle of his buildings plus a cool space to host parties. And that's where the party was. A spacious salon with in the back the shop where you could choose a few items, a catwalk surrounded by bar tables and a proper bar. Of course, everything was decorated in a warm retro style with real vintage crockery, couches, lamps and much more.

one of the gorgeous models posing for us!

The MC of the party did a great job in keeping all the screaming ladies in control. The models showed cool sets that a few of Eindhoven's best stylists (I.M.H.O.) had put together from all the bags of clothing everybody donated the weeks before. Then the MC asked the audience to scream if you wanted a certain set. Well, screaming they did. I think the sound pressure went over 85 decibel a few times. The rest of the clothes that where donated, where put in the shop. Only a few ladies could enter the shop at a time, so you had plenty of space to look around. The line in front of the shop was long the whole evening, very popular of course!

THE shop

During the breaks, there were also drawings of prices, contributed by all kinds of vintage, handmade or designer stores from Eindhoven. You could buy tickets in advance for just one euro. I'm very lucky I bought a few tickets, because I won a lovely set of earrings from Jannissima! So cool, especially because I can't buy any jewelry this year. But winning is a different thing, don't you think?

i went home with these beauties and a gift certificate!

Back from our holiday!

Yesterday we came back from our holiday. We had a great time in New York and San Francisco! All kinds of cool things happened and I will tell you all about them the coming weeks. To satisfy your curiosity, or maybe I'm only nourishing it, here's a little recap. We went to galleries, I shopped for supplies, we took a wine tour and much more. And when we came back we also visited Ellies Kledingkast yesterday evening. So yes, major jet-lag right now, but one filled with bliss also!
Have a nice sunday and a great week!

What to Wear Wednesday!

Remember I told you about the Synergy Sisters fashion show? Last week there was a fitting night and they gave me this super cute top because I made some illustrations for them. I love the flirty sleeves and the fabric feels so nice! Perfect for my curves because it stretches :)

The color is a little bit like the color of my wedding dress. I knew from the start that I wouldn't wear a white dress. I'm very pale and at that time, my hair was colored platinum blonde so I would have been a fuzzy cloud instead of a blushing bride. So I chose burgundy red. When I saw it hanging there, I knew immediately that it was "the one". Eddy loved it also and now, four years later, I still am very fond of my choice for this dress.

Well, it's the beginning of a new wedding season (and the hen and stag parties in our city) so I have been looking around for a good wedding dress for this "What to Wear". After tons of pretty as well as hideous gowns, I admit I couldn't make a choice. And I know why. Because I already did once. And it was the best bridal outfit ever. So if you're going to be a bride soon, take a look at Kaat Tilley's fashion. She lives and works in Belgium so if you're from around, contact her. Her dresses will make you feel like a princess the whole day!
