So, my challenge became; try not to buy new
clothing or accessories that were made through mass production for a whole
year... Not totally like the assignment you get on the free fashion challenge, because
they also don’t allow handmade or vintage. But with me having my own little
shop on etsy.com, it would have been quite weird and perhaps hypocrite not to allow
handmade or vintage novelties.
As an extra I only bought make-up when I had to replace
an empty eyeliner or shadow with a new one, but I left the rest of the
glittery and colorful products I love to experiment with, on the store shelves.
I found this the hardest,
because make-up (not tested on animals of course) is one of my guilty
pleasures.
So, this was my change in consuming for one year. Of course, during this year my leggings started to get as transparent as
my stockings, while my stockings got beyond wearable. My panties and
bras have become a bit too baggy and I took my high heels to the repair
shop twice. But further, everything still looks very nice. I did start
to long for some color in my wardrobe, since 85% of every item I own is
black or grey.
The thing I learned from this experiment is that we Western women really have enough stuff to get around with. Also, that quality really is better then quantity. So, I'm not going to burst and spend all the money I saved on new stuff. Just a few items to add color and replace the things that are worn-out. Meanwhile, I'm thinking of other challenges! :)
